Closing your account and your data
You can close your Compoyo account and have your personal data masked. Here is exactly how, and exactly what it does.
How to do it
Sign in, open your profile, and choose Close account. It takes effect immediately — there is no waiting period and no approval step.
Once the account is closed:
- Every active session ends, on every device.
- You can no longer sign in.
- No further signals, alerts, emails or messages are sent to you, on any channel.
- Your name and email address are masked, and your phone number is deleted.
What masking and deleting mean here, precisely
We are going to be exact about this, because the difference matters and it is easy to blur.
Your name and email address are replaced, so they no longer appear anywhere a person at Compoyo can read them — not on an internal screen, not in an export, not in a support tool. Your phone number is not replaced, it is deleted — the field is emptied and nothing is written back in its place.
Removed or replaced:
- Your name — masked
- Your email address — masked
- Your phone number — deleted
- Every session, on every device — deleted
Your account records themselves are retained:
- What you did on the demo account — So a later question about your practice trading can be answered.
- The consents you gave, with their dates — Proof of what you agreed to, and when, has to outlast the account.
- Your plan, and the dates the account was opened and closed — So the account history is answerable rather than guessed at.
An internal reference still connects those records to your closed account.
So this is masking and retention, not total erasure. We would rather say that plainly than tell you your data is gone when a record of your activity still exists.
Why we keep it
Two reasons, and neither is marketing. If a question comes up later about something you did on the account, the record is what lets us answer it rather than guess. And consent records carry retention obligations that outlast an account: the proof that you agreed to something, and when, is the thing that has to survive you leaving.
If paid plans are added later, the payment records that come with them will be retained too, because financial records carry their own retention obligations. Today there are none to retain — nothing on this platform has ever taken a payment.
None of the retained data is used to contact you, profile you, or market to you after closure. The account is closed, and it is not dormant — nothing reaches out to it again.
If you want more than masking
If you want your retained records erased entirely rather than masked, email privacy@compoyo.com and say so. We will tell you honestly what we can erase and what we are obliged to keep, and why — rather than confirming a deletion we did not perform.
Quote your account id, which is shown on the close-account screen before you confirm — copy it somewhere first. Closing masks your email address, so after closure that address is no longer what identifies you to us — asking you to write in "from the address on the account" would be asking for the one thing the closure just removed. The id is the only handle that still finds your records, and it identifies nobody on its own.
Data we hold through WhatsApp
Compoyo does not use Facebook Login. There is no way to sign in to Compoyo with a Facebook account, so we hold no Facebook profile, no friend list and no Facebook user id.
The one Meta service we use is the WhatsApp Business API, and only to deliver a verification code to the number you give us, if you choose WhatsApp as your channel. That means your phone number is sent to Meta so they can deliver the message. We store the number itself; the code is stored only as a hash and that row is destroyed the moment you verify. We do not read your WhatsApp messages, we do not import your contacts, and we do not post anything on your behalf.
Closing your account deletes that phone number outright — it is set to empty, not masked — and stops all further messages on every channel, WhatsApp included. Nothing in the records we retain afterwards came from Meta: what is kept is your demo activity, your consent records and your plan, all of it generated here. The internal reference that survives links only to Compoyo's own records.
